Important things to know … before admission
The Istituto Clinico Humanitas is covered for admission and treatment facilities by the
National Health Service for which it is possible to enter the hospital with the family doctor's
prescription. Admission can be to the wards or to medical/oncologic or surgical Day Hospital.
Patients who do not wish to use the NHS and are paying patients or patients insured with Companies
or Insurance Agencies, with conventions in Humanitas, follow a distinct route for
booking/admissions. Numerous direct and indirect coverage is active also for admissions.

It is important to notify the doctor regarding any drugs that are taken habitually, even if
they are just laxatives, pain killers and cough medicine.
Important things to know … during admission
On admission to the wards you will be given an information form which contains all the most
important details concerning your ward and the Operative Unit in which you will be staying.
Ward rooms
The rooms have two beds, and are designed for maximum comfort and furnished with all the
necessary healthcare equipment, with oxygen, aspirator, safety electric system, communications
system. Each room is supplied with:
- adjustable air conditioning;
- remote controlled bed;
- electric movement of blinds/venetian blinds with button on bedhead;
- button panel for calling nurse or to speak through intercom with nurse;
- reading light;

filtered light (on wall in front of bed) for non-disturbing night lighting;
- selector for listening to three radio programmes;
- wardrobe for personal effects with compartment for a small bag/case;
- bedside table for each patient;

safe for each patient: the instructions form is in the bedside table drawer;
- bathroom;

television with remote control which will be handed over on request at admission;
- a telephone can be connected for who requests it at admission.
Food and diet
Breakfast is served at 7.30/8.00, lunch at 12/12.30, and dinner at 7.30 p.m.
Visits of relatives and friends
Advised visiting hours are between 11 and 12 a.m. and 5 and 7 p.m. every day. It is possible
in particular cases to receive visits between 8.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. but patients are begged to
limit these as much as possible. Visitors are not allowed during the night, between 8.30 p.m. and
8.30 a.m., unless in specific cases (e.g. relatives of operated or seriously ill patients) for whom
written consent is required (ask the head nurse). Children under the age of 12 years are not
allowed into the wards for hygienic purposes, in particular for infection prevention. Exceptions
are possible in certain cases for which it is necessary to have written permission (ask the head
nurse).
Important things to know … on discharge
You will be given a letter addressed to your family doctor at the moment of discharge. During
opening hours of the PARC Admissions (1st floor; times: 8.00 a.m./6.00 p.m. Monday-Friday;
8.00a.m./1.00 p.m. Saturday; 2.00 p.m./5p.m. Sunday) you can pay for any extra services you may
have used during your stay (TV, telephone, etc.); request a copy of your medical card which can be
posted to you (on payment). You can also request a certificate proving your period of stay, to give
to employers. Subsequent check-ups will be carried out in the Outpatients Unit of Humanitas on
appointment.
